I thing that i have never been able to comprehend is how people can see the automobile as nothing more then a object that gets you from point A to Point B. According to the U.S. Census Bureau "Americans spend more than 100 hours commuting to work each year, according to American Community Survey (ACS). That is about half of the time i spend but i don't have to sit in traffic and i know that is much different then in location like LA. In my eyes if you view your commute to purely be the necessary step between A and B then you are wasting 100 hours of your life a year, why not enjoy it, why not put the windows down and smell the air, Hit that gas peddle and forget about the worry's of the world.
When i was younger i was much less open to all kinds of cars, now i have grown to appreciation all of them from Ferrari (still the best) to the family sedan. Every car has something to offer and really does have a personality, everyone will not find the same personality appealing but that is the same for everything in life, people are different.
This whole rant came from two things. This weekend i decided to participate in a 600 mile drive through the roads of Northern Michigan with no point B, the reason was for people that loved cars to get together and drive. This was exemplified by the fact that along the way two more cars then were originally planned joined our drive. Both were going the other and decided in the spirit of the drive that they should join. I really don't think there is anything more freeing then to just go, maybe with a slight chirp :)
The other was from driving home today with the windows down and just realizing that i really enjoy my commute. It gives you time to think and clear your head before getting home, or in the morning it gives you time to wake up. On top of the exhaust smell and sound there is also the fact the a lot of cars are art. Sculpted from clay to perfection, or at least as close as regulation let them get.
I guess my closing statement is next time you don't feel like driving just put the windows down and let the breeze hit your face as the exhaust note intoxicates you
